Arbon dating

Carbon dating, also known as radiocarbon dating, is a method of estimating the age of carbon-bearing materials up to 60,000 years old. One of the most frequent uses of radiocarbon dating is to estimate the age of organic remains from archaeological sites. What is Carbon Dating? Carbon is one of the chemical elements. Along with hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, and sulfur, carbon is a building block of biochemical molecules ranging from fats, proteins, and carbohydrates to active substances such as hormones. Carbon-14 dating, method of age determination that depends upon the decay to nitrogen of radiocarbon (carbon-14). Carbon-14 is continually formed in nature by the interaction of neutrons with nitrogen-14 in the Earth’s atmosphere. Learn more about carbon-14 dating in this article. Carbon Dating - The Premise Carbon dating is a dating technique predicated upon three things: The rate at which the unstable radioactive C-14 isotope decays into the stable non-radioactive N-14 isotope, The ratio of C-12 to C-14 found in a given specimen, And the ratio C-12 to C-14 found in the atmosphere at the time of the specimen's death. Carbon-14 dating is a way of determining the age of certain archeological artifacts of a biological origin up to about 50,000 years old. It is used in dating things such as bone, cloth, wood and plant fibers that were created in the relatively recent past by human activities. Whenever the worldview of evolution is questioned, the topic of carbon dating always comes up. Here is how carbon dating works and the assumptions it is based upon. How Carbon Dating Works Radiation from the sun strikes the atmosphere of the earth all day long. This energy converts about 21 pounds of nitrogen into radioactive carbon 14.

2019.02.03 20:14 InfamousVenous The Smol Engineer - Chapter 2

Previous Chapter First Chapter Next Chapter

I've been granted permission by u/Tinyprancinghorse to write a story in his "They are Smol" universe.
Links:
Reddit Page, Patreon, Smol Homepage, and Discord.
The feedback and response to chapter 1 was fantastic and really encouraging, so I hope you enjoy this one as well!
Special thanks to Arbon for helping me choose a name for our Security Chief Xarlen’pcli, and thanks to everyone on the Smol Discord for helping proofread this chapter early.
Quick note:
"Hello" - normal, human speech/tongue
"[Hello]" - translated speech via communication bead implant.
"" - Jornissian native tongue
"{Hello}" - Dorarizin native tongue
"Hello" - Karnakian native tongue
"?Hello?" - Untranslated native-to-alien speech (i.e. translator machine broke)
Also, turns out I subconsciously chose the names Bill and Caroline, who happen to be 2 protagonists in TPH's Smol series. The names have been adjusted to avoid further confusion. Billiam is now Edward, and Caroline is now Marilyn. Sorry for the inconvenience.
~{o}~{o}~
Security Chief Xarlen’pcli-of-Rar’gtk had been assigned to keep watch for the new crew member. She had been waiting for the last [18 hours] or so, watching each and every Human that had crossed the threshold into this section of the Zephyr station. She had never seen so many Humans at once before, and she loved it. There were so many different kinds, at different heights, different builds, different faces!
…and they were all absolutely adorable.
Her pack mates often teased her love of Humans, of how she would go from the biggest and most ferocious individual on the ship, to a melty little puddle of fluff as soon as one of them entered the room.
She soon corrected their thoughts in brief, intense sparring matches. Not that they were any better with Humans.
Xarlen’pcli couldn’t help herself though. They were so small. And hairless. And tiny. And their languages sounded just like Dorarizin pups speaking for the first time, babbling to themselves! Not to mention their scent! By Drawegh-Who-Hunts-the-Night, they were near-scentless, similar to how abandoned pups would smell.
They were really cute. No doubt about it.
…That may have been the reason Captain had made her take the “Human Sensitivity and Care” course. Twice.
She had to try really hard to not launch herself at the nearest Human and dote on it relentlessly in those early days, much as it pained her. Turns out, Humans don’t enjoy having a cuddly alien nearly 3 times larger than them sprinting full tilt towards them. Who knew?
Jornissians also found Humans adorable, funnily enough. They said they resembled small, scale-less, pink, heat producing babies with a tail deficiency.
Karnakian’s felt much the same in regard to the pink, featherless and scale-less baby appearance, but other than that, they just couldn’t seem to explain just why Humans seemed cute. Maybe some religious thing? Who knew with those overly happy land-birds.
It was a Galaxy wide fact. Humans are adorable, no questions asked. It was one of the biggest secrets in the history of the Senate and trying to keep this information from the Humans was proving increasingly difficult. Too many vessels wanted a Human aboard, and there were quite a number that wanted to explore the galaxy.
So, with a heavy heart, Xarlen’pcli had to resist the extremely strong instincts urging her to rush the crowd of passing Humans, cuddling and scenting each and every one she could get her paws on.
After all, she was a professional. She had an image to uphold.
Staying true to her professional position, Xarlen’pcli stood tall, claws polished to a sheen, clothing straight and form fitting, near white fur with a soft glow reflecting the station’s overhead atmosphere. She cut quite the impressive figure, if she did say so herself. Of course, the awe-filled looks passing Humans gave her as they saw one of her species for the first time also filled her with a fair amount of vanity.
Unfortunately, as the time she spent standing there lengthened, her happy mood diminished as well. She had received a message early this morning from her captain stating that she was meant to escort their new Human crew member to their ship, and scent him before entrance to the vessel. Dorarizin instincts attempting to protect the Human could be damn near lethal.
For the last [18 hours] she had been waiting, and not one Human actually approached her to be taken to the [Undoing of Mystery]. Not a single one! She would have been incredibly worried if she didn’t continually remind herself that Humans were just naturally slow.
Double checking the time, Xarlen’pcli sighed to herself, before turning her attention to her communication implant and transmitting to her current supervisor.
“{There’s still been no sign of the Human, First Officer. I hope he hasn’t gotten himself lost…}”
“[It has been 15 [minutes] since you have last reported to me, Xarlen’pcli.]” he sighed over the communicator. “[It was only every 30 [minutes] before that.]”
“{I apologize First Officer, I will only contact you once I have him in my care.}” Xarlen’pcli spoke, her ears flicking backwards in shame for only a moment, before she composed herself once more.
“[I can hear your teeth rippling. Come back to the ship and rest for a while, I shall take watch in the meantime.]”
“{But I-}” Xarlen’pcli caught herself, cursing her nervous tick for giving her away. “{Very well, Sir. I’ll head over immediately.}”
With a sigh so powerful she could have toppled a Human, she turned herself around and began her slow march back towards the hangar. She glanced back at the large sliding doors once more, hoping for a Human to approach her.
There was no such luck, unfortunately. All that was visible was the occasional Human heading towards the exit to return to the Human only section, and a single Jornissian conversing with her apparent crewmate. Xarlen’pcli narrowed her amber eyes, before putting the door behind her. She couldn’t help the slight droop in her brilliantly groomed tail.
With a glance to the security drone observing the gates between sections, she began to cross the threshold.
“[Hello? Yes, hi. Would you be able to tell me where I could get to the dock that harbours the [Undoing of Mystery]? I seem to have gotten lost. First time in this [Zephyr] Station and all.]”
Xarlen’pcli paused mid-step in the gate to the general mixed hangar, the familiar name catching her attention. Standing beside a security drone near the entrance to this section was a Human.
He stood, leaning to one side, hand resting on an odd-looking vehicular device. Standing at roughly 1.8 meters (5’11) tall, he was above average for his species. He was coloured light brown, had a small tuft of short curly hair on top of his head, a standard Human uniform for space-faring, and… The eyes.
By Drawegh, his eyes. Being stuck exploring deeper Dorarizin space didn’t lead to many Human encounters, and any that Xarlen’pcli had encountered during scent-resistance training normally had brown eyes. Never blue. Bright, piercing blue, contrasting heavily against the darker skin tone.
Xarlen’pcli was enamoured, and if the current conversation was any indication of the future, she was going to be a very happy Dorarizin.
“[We apologize, but this unit is not currently directing individuals. Please navigate to the nearest available drone with a [green double-helix] along its left-flank for further assistance. Have a good [day].]”
“[Hang on! Where-]” The drone flitted away, quickly reaching a height the Human would not be able to attract its attention. “[Dammit!]” He sighed, quickly looking around the large, open connecting hub. “[Green double-helix, what kind of idiocy is that? I swear, Senate –]” His muttering quickly came to a stop as he noticed Xarlen’pcli watching him, eying him out from amongst the small crowd of Humans that flowed around him. A flash of recognition lit his face, before it was replaced with… fear? Anger? Sorrow? She couldn’t tell.
As one of the few taller Species in this section of the station (almost everyone else was on their vessels, or watching Human tourists experience the Zero-Gravity Chamber for the first time), Xarlen’pcli was extraordinarily easy to notice. Standing at little under 4 meters tall at full height, she was tall even for her species, and had the muscle mass to back it up as well. She was Chief of Security for a damn good reason.
“{I’ve found him.}” Xarlen’pcli quickly transmitted to the First Officer, ignoring the startled noise and any subsequent Jornissian curses that followed. She quickly (but not so fast as to set off station security) strode her way over towards the Human, unable to help the light twitch in her tail. She was excited, dammit.
Unfortunately, the Human could not say the same as the large space-werewolf essentially barreled its way towards him, sending his heart rate skyrocketing. The crowd parted as quickly as it could to escape the movement of the Dorarizin, security drones keeping a close watch.
~{o}~{o}~
“Oh shit.”
When Samuel had boarded the Zephyr station, he had been thoroughly impressed by the size of it. Kilometers wide, the station was a masterpiece of Human and Senate technology blended into one. Each section itself was massive alone, housing different species in a temperature and climate most suited to their average species tolerance. The environments matched each as well, hard light projections and standard structures making up gorgeous works of art throughout the station. Cultural works of art from each species were on proud display, acting like a giant showing of the greatest of their cultures and technological advancements.
Then, there had been the ships. These enormous leviathans of metal gliding effortlessly throughout the traffic of the station, movements unnaturally slick. There had been times he had thought these magnificent structures of engineering would collide, only for them to dart away at the last second at speeds difficult to imagine. Each species had a certain characteristic to it, whether it be insanely sharp looking, rounded, smooth, or anything in between, creating a mosaic of technological prowess across a canvas of glittering stars.
But nothing, nothing, could compare to the feeling of awe and sheer terror at the massive Dorarizin looming over him, having moved silently, predator like toward him. Samuel has seen the diagrams, the charts comparing Humans to various species. The aliens were very tall, there was no doubt about it. But a Dorarizin in person was a far, far different experience. He had received pictures to help him identify her, of course, but there lacks a certain scale when it comes to photos.
That scale came to smack Samuel full force in the face several times over. She was absolutely massive, and he meant that in the most polite way possible. She was easily twice his height, his head only reaching up to about her navel. She was slightly hunched over, adding to her feral, bestial appearance. Her three rows of razor sharp teeth were visible, rippling themselves in a horrifying, alien manner. Her ears stood up straight, facing him, listening to every beat of his heart, and her pitch black claws glittered dangerously in the light. Her tail swished lightly back and forth like a predator ready to pounce, her eyes roaming over him like a starved dog would a scrap of meat.
The atmosphere was crushing, blood roared through his ears, infinitely loud, but noiseless. She looked every part the alpha predator of her species, and she knew it. Samuel was rooted to the spot, heart caught in his throat, fear clenching his chest tightly. There was nothing else in the station but her.
“[Samuel Li-Anderson?]” She growled, her chittering barks absolutely thunderous, before the translation of the comm beads kicked in a moment later. There was a pause before she crouched slightly lower, her nose twitching as she took in his scent. An odd gleam flashed in her predatory gaze, before she let out a quiet chuff, standing upright.
Just like that, the atmosphere shattered, sound rushing like a river back over him. Samuel gasped, air filling his screaming lungs. The quiet conversations of Humans and aliens alike filled his ears once again, and the dull thrumming of the station made itself known once more.
“[I apologize if I startled you, Samuel. I am Security Chief Xarlen’pcli-of-Rar’gtk, and I have been instructed to guide you back to the [Undoing of Mystery].”
Samuel took several breaths, hand squeezing the handle of his hybrid-bike tightly in reassurance. He mentally chided himself, shame making its way through his mind.
“It’s alright, um, Xar…li… Does the name Xarnia translate?” Samuel asked, recalling information on the translation matrix within the comm bead. Supposedly, the translator was able to reassign new names and derivations of those names to a specific individual.
“[Yes, it does, Apprentice Engineer.]” ‘Xarnia’ stood taller, a light grin working itself onto her muzzle. Thankfully, the horrifying rippling of her teeth had stopped.
Samuel reached a hand upwards, fingers ghosting lightly over the ring tucked into his shirt, before moving into a salute. He steeled himself, thoughts flitting to his father and his goal. A flash of anger worked its way through him before settling in his stomach, fire fueling him. He would prove himself, of that he had no doubt. These massive creatures wouldn’t stop him. His fear wouldn’t stop him.
“Apprentice Engineer Samuel Li-Anderson reporting for duty, ma’am.”
~{o}~{o}~
“{Did you break yet, Xarlen’pcli?}”
“{I don’t know what you’re referring to, Captain.}”
“{Of course not. I wouldn’t dare suggest otherwise.}” A pause. A near unnoticeable whine left the Chief of Security. “{Did he-}”
“{He saluted me!}” Xarlen’pcli whispered, ears folding back and a breeze kicking up from the swaying of her tail. “{It was the cutest- ahem.}” She stood up straight, composing herself. Folding her hands in front of her, she turned to her captain, a light glare forming. “{…it was endearing.}”
The Captain merely chuckled, before turning her attention back to the Human being escorted around by an incredibly excited Chief of Engineering. The poor Human looked so lost, yet so enthralled as he was escorted around the Undoing of Mystery. It didn’t help matters that he had been placed under one of the most excitable individuals on board, the short green and grey Dorarizin chittering away to his heart’s content.
“{…and here is the communal sleeping area. I’m sure you’re aware of this, but Dorarizin’s sleep in groups. You’ll have to be partnered up with one of us at least once every other 30 [hours] to ensure you remain scented. There is a sleeping schedule in place for designated sleeping partners over the [month]. Additionally, you have your own Human den for both personal possessions and for you to view your mandatory 4 [hours] of Human media every day. We aren’t allowed to…}”
Very excitable. Poor Samuel was being dragged around the ship by the hyper Dorarizin, his translator barely keeping up with the rapid clicking and growling. More than half the crew was currently present, watching the proceedings with great amusement while several personal drones recorded the event.
Samuel had already been introduced to a small number of the crew, with more gentle caresses and “accidental” touching than the captain would care to admit to her superiors. Having been forced to create and memorize tens of different names on the spot, in front of a crowd full of individuals at least twice as large as him had been somewhat mentally draining on the poor Human. Nearing the end of the introductions, he had been reduced to using common utensils as nicknames and references until a later date.
The currently nicknamed “Spoon” was the one leading Samuel around, showing off every nook and cranny of the ship with as much excitement as a Karnakian in a chess contest. They really enjoy Human games, they’re just not good at them.
“{…additionally, there is a specific Nano-Fabricator configured specifically for your Human diet, so you don’t have to worry about eating something that’d potentially kill you. Your personal drone will also assist in that matter, so there’s no risk there. You’ll find that there are Human proportioned stations in nearly every section of the ship to accommodate you, all heavily reinforced with some of the strongest materials known to the Senate. Feel free to use these facilities however you like. Do you have any questions?}”
Samuel blinked at the diminutive Dorarizin, attempting to process all the information he had just been bombarded with. Their tour had concluded in the very center of the ship, near the bridge and crew lodgings. Crew members continued to trickle on board the ship, having received a message that their new Human engineer had arrived, each one clustering into the entry lounge, and circling themselves around the ever-growing crowd.
“[I… have several. I have to report to you every shift for my duties, Spoon?]” Samuel asked, looking up to the brown eyed Dorarizin.
“{That is correct.}” He replied, pausing a moment, before nodding. The Captain had instructed the crew to attempt to use Human mannerisms to allow their new crew member to adapt swiftly. “{I’ll be assigning you different tasks and responsibilities for the first week or so to determine where you’d be most proficient.}”
Several more crew members wandered into the room, the doors swishing open silently, allowing a breeze to drift through.
“[Right. My room, er… “den”, how do the permission features you mentioned work, exactly?]”
“{You have a terminal inside the room, as you may have seen earlier.}” Xarlen’pcli stepped forward at this, drawing the room full of eyes onto her. “{This terminal is directly linked to your personal drone, as well as the ship’s main data processing unit. You’ll have to tell your drone that you allow permission of a specified individual. The drone will proceed to scan the signal of your translation implants, or the comm beads in your case, and then perform a scan of the individual, registering their biometric data to the terminal.}”
“[Um…]”
“{It’s easier if I show you. Drone, permit Samuel Li-Anderson, personnel number 132, entrance to my personal quarters.}”
A quiet whispering started up in the lounge. The Captain flicked her ear at her Security Chief’s antics. To allow someone entrance to your den, your personal quarters, was an immense display of trust or affection.
“{It’s only fair, since I, the Captain, and the First Officer all have default access to every crew member’s personal quarters as well.}” She explained, looking over her shoulder and down the crew corridors.
Three more crew members entered the room, doors shutting quietly behind them.
A hatch swished open a fair distance down, and a grey metal orb rushed down the hall. Samuel couldn’t keep track of the drone as it flitted in front of him, a blue beam of light focusing on his left wrist for a moment, before a grid-like pattern flashed over him.
Just as soon as it started, it was over. The drone fluttered backwards, scanner shutting off, giving a chirp of acceptance. With a gesture, the drone was sent speeding back down the hallway, jerking to the right and flying through the briefly opened hatch at the top of the door.
“[What just… Wow.]” Samuel blinked the spots from his eyes, before looking back up at “Xarnia.” His eyes held an excited gleam to them, flickering briefly to the doors to her quarters. An excited grin made its way to his face, white teeth gleaming in the light.
“{Your own personal drone is currently being manufactured and assigned to your biometrics. Until the drone is created, I have been instructed to accompany you around the ship and to assist you with any questions you might have.}” Xarlen’pcli explained.
Another pair of crew members approached, adding to the growing crowd. The whispering grew louder, the cacophony of noise washing over everyone present. Hushed words filled the air, Samuel’s translator unable to pick up the mess of alien speech.
Samuel opened his mouth to speak, before pausing, eyes gliding past the Chief Engineer and onto the gathering of crew members, the number of eyes watching him growing ever larger. The bright sparkling of his blue eyes faded, his breathing increasing minimally. He tried to focus on the Dorarizin before him once more, blinking firmly, but his gaze rolled back to the gathering of eyes clustered around him.
Xarlen’pcli cringed as dulled scent of fear gently rolled off the Human, sending her instincts absolutely roiling within her. She noticed the Captain stiffen beside her, her red fur bristling lightly at the realization.
The smell of fear that had lanced off the Human while introducing herself on the Zephyr Station’s communal hub had been brief and intense, but she had ample amount of will power and training to curb her instincts. The openness of the station had helped mitigate the oppressiveness of the scent.
Here, however, there wasn’t anywhere for it to go. Individuals with absolutely minimal scent training, or those who weren’t even meant to be in contact with the Human at all, were all crammed into one room.
The chief of security cursed her distracted state, shoving herself in front of Samuel and placing herself before the crowd with a blur of motion. Several crew members jerked forward at the same moment, their instincts screaming at them to approach the Human.
Glazed eyes seemed to look through her. A low growl escaped one of the crowd, hackles raising. The air was thick, emotion and instinct flying. The quiet whine of energy weaponry filled the air as several drones readied themselves.
“{Alright! Everyone, back to your stations! I want this ship ready to depart in a week’s time!}” The Captain barked.
As if a cannon had gone off, the crew scrambled their way out of the area, rushing back to their designated work stations. Some of the crew took slightly longer, blinking the odd haze from their eyes. With quiet huffs and apologetic hisses, eventually they left as well, leaving only the three individuals.
The scent of fear was quickly replaced by one fury and shame. Xarlen’pcli quickly turned around, taking a step back from the Human. Her gaze roamed up and down her small charge, taking notice of the furious glare creasing his face. His eyes were closed, lips moving in silence, one hand clenched tightly to an object at his chest.
“{I apologize if the crew caused you any distress. It has been a while since they’ve had a new crew member aboard.}” The Captain spoke, her red tail giving a minor swish.
“[It’s alright, I’m just not used to so many people in one small space. I’ll get used to it.]”
The Security Chief could smell both blatant lies easily.
~{o}~{o}~
“{Xenophobia?}” Xarlen’pcli asked, ears folding back. “{Are you sure? He didn’t seem hateful towards me at all.}”
“{Quite sure, I’m afraid. Xenophobia isn’t just hate, of course, but fear as well. The scans taken during the psychological section of his examination are quite telling.}” The Captain spoke, enlarging a hard-light projection.
A detailed electromagnetic representation of Samuel was shown, showing several different views consisting of blood flow, brain activity, scent, respiratory activity and more, all beside a regular view of him in a chair. The pair watched his heart rate spike, flashes of activity shooting through his brain in response to the stimuli he was being forced to watch. This particular one was named “Jornissian #1,” a particularly terrifying video (according to Human participants) displaying full physical prowess of the average member of the species.
“{Isn’t that normal, though? We’ve been told that Humans regularly experience fear when exposed to the videos shown.}” Xarlen’pcli watched Samuel’s heart rate spike once again, respiratory system freezing for mere moments, followed by flashed of minor anger. Her tail hung limp behind her.
“{Of course it’s normal to be afraid. The anger shown is more than likely directed at himself as well, if his disappointed wording is to be believed.}” The Captain explained. “{However, at the later portions of the test, when shown more natural stimuli of different species in everyday life, the reactions remained consistent.}”
“{He’s terrified of us.}” A quiet whine escaped the muzzle of the Security Chief, eyes widening in horror. Her ears lay flat against her head, and her teeth rippled anxiously.
A pregnant pause filled the Captain’s quarters as the pair watched the continuing results of the examination. Samuel was shown a still image of a particular Karnakian ship at the request of the Captain.
Samuel’s response was explosive.
Blood flow increased substantially, his heart racing. His muscles clenched, tightening, pain receptors firing in response to the action. The parts of the brain responding to memory firing heavily. Pain flared up near the top of his spine, just above where his shoulders were, and a particular spot along his right leg. Visual receptors in his mind tainted the image red, flames rising high over the ship. Auditory receptors fired powerfully, throwing a thunderous noise over the flaming wreck.
“{I’m assigning you to a new task.}” The Captain spoke, jolting Xarlen’pcli out of her reverie. “{You’ll be shadowing our new engineer. Ideally, you should help him over his complications. However, if you see significant cause, detain him. I cannot risk the lives of the crew.}”
“{And what of the illegal technology in his possession?}” The Security Chief asked, looking to the Captain.
“{You of all people know I tend to judge actions and character over rumours and circumstances, Xarlen’pcli.}” A brief smile crossing her face. “{I will not report it to the Senate or the United Nations as of yet.}”
The Captain lifted a paw, claws grasping a specific x-ray of Samuel. With a flick of her wrist, she enlarged it, shoving the other projections to the sides of the desk. With a slight movement, she overlaid the freezeframe of Samuel’s pain receptors firing when viewing the still image of the Karnakian ship.
At the base of his neck lay a mangled mess of nano-bot scars and repair fractures, the shattering marks raised minimally over the smooth bone. The pain receptors of the area were mangled, but still functional, leading to significant reactions at every little motion. Similar pockets of bone scarring existed throughout his body, the second largest section being his right leg, underneath the visible brace. These were the markings of a primitive race attempting to use technology to repair injuries it had no hope of succeeding in. The Karnakians had given Humans technology, but the Humans had tried to adapt it.
The captain moved a display onto the screen, medical records for Samuel coming into existence over the x-ray.
“{These injuries date back to the hour of Humanity’s first contact!}” Xarlen’pcli realized with horror.
“{Security Chief,}” The Captain began softly, {“please take care not to change your actions towards Samuel. We cannot risk letting him know.}”
“{Do you think he’s… The one they’re looking for?}”
“{I... remain skeptical, although it is a possibility. His academy scores are impressive; he graduated in half the time.}” A pause. “{I need you to focus your efforts on Samuel towards his negative views on the various species of the Senate. I’ve been notified that a Navigator has accepted our request of transfer. We’ll have her on ship within 3 weeks.}”
“{I understand, Captain.}”
“{Dismissed.}”
The doors open briefly, light flooding the room, before closing softly. In the darkness the Captain sat, pondering her decision. She raised her red furred hand, brushing the computer simulated image of the first contact vessel’s flaming hull away. She tapped on a new icon, displaying the acceptance message of the transfer. With a quick swipe, she enlarged the image of her new navigator.
A blue feathered Karnakian, smiling happily back at her.

2015.02.17 17:27 dietmonth Just starting my 30 day minimal diet that has worked several times in my life when I have slowly gained weight over a decade.

Progress report
Start 2/14 204.5 lbs latest update 2/20 199.1 lbs See bottom for daily weigh ins. All weighins in the morning post breakfast intake and post first bathroom. All are with extremely similiar clothing everyday even if I dont specifically say "c" for clothes.
Guess it doesnt matter that i am over 50 becuase this diet still works like it did in my 30s! Btw date was wrong yesterday . Shoukd have said 2/18. So heres the diet.
I am going to post my weight every few days to keep track publicly and force myself to stick to it.
This is for weight loss period only and is based on providing enough protein, vitamins, veggies, salts, fiber and liquids for your body while lowering calories and keeping them below your reting needs EVERYDAY so your body MUST burn fat regardless of exercise. I dont exercise much. Probably like most of you.
I dont recommend it to anyone else . I am not a doctor. Dont do it. I dont have diabetes or anything else but I do have high cholesterol. But with last check i had no heart blockages. A doctor for another person i helped lose weight with this diet really thought it was a great diet and that person did steadily drop weight every day and all their health factors including blood work etc got better so a doctor did once review this diet but by no means do I say it is doctor approved.
I am not a doctor. I dont claim any safety or benefit. Dont do this diet. In fact in specifically forbide it and if you do it i will perhaps sue you. I am just sharing a personal experince partly to force myself to stick to this diet again.
I have done this two other times in my life when i wanted to get back to high school weight after slowly gaining 30 or 40 pounds over the years.
I have also done it for shorter periods maybe 2 or 3 times if i wanted to drop a quick 5 or 10.
Breakfast is about one quarter cup of original fiber one cereal with a small amount of milk. It barely covers the bottom of the bowl but is nearly pure fiber.
Lunch is one 5 oz can of yellowfin tuna in water 120 calories. I add half a tablespoon of pure olive oil 60 calories and whatever spice i want like tumeric, lemon pepper , soy sauce whatever. I also boil a bunch of skinless frozen chicken tenders and may rewarm two for lunch instead.
Dinner is a small bag of frozen veggies like mixed veggies (corn, carrots, green beans) or a bunch or two of broccoli.
Usually seasoned with I cant believei its not butterspray and morton lite salt (a mix of potassium and sodium chloride salt), some onion or gsrlic powder, mixed italian spices, chili pepper or whatever.
A snack is a quarter cup of air popped popcorn with I cant believe its not bitter spray and any of the seasonings above. Also sometimes pure cinnamon ( NOT CINNAMON SUGAR) sprinkled with sweet and low.
I am mid 50s. I am 6 ft tall exactly. Did this diet in my 30cs and lost from 210 to 165 in maybe 2 months ( averaged about .5 to .75 lbs per day.) Did it again in my 40s to lose about 20 to get to about 180 after another decade of creeping weight gain.
I also take 200 mcg of chromium picolinate and have for the past 30 yrs and a mulitvitamin. I used to take one fish oil but have found big vitamins more and more troublesome to swallow so switch to the pure liquid olive oil in the tuna and Alive Liquid Multi vitamin which i just switched to about a week before starting this diet.
I do not vary my physical activity as that is not part of this and i dont want to stress too much at once when i am limiting food intake. My daily activity is sitting. Programmming, reading, housework like dish loading and every few days a more through house clean. Maybe walking around a store every couple of days. Maybe a walk around the block if the weather is nice ( i dont expect that in the next week.)
Aside from the small amount of milk with the fiber one in the morning i only drink either caffeinated or decafe coffee, a lemonade made from a quart of water and three squeezes of 100% concentrated lemon juice and three packets of sweet n low.( that has been my go to drink for years all the time. I keep an old gatorade type plastic container full of it near me at all times. I am trying to limit myself to one caffienated cup a day . I used to drink diet cherry pepsi but am not doing that so much these days as i am trying to stay away from asparatame.
As i said i have done this diet before and felt remarkable good and remarkably clear headed as in a minor fast which is sort of what this is. There are no real carbs involved if i can help it except for the corn or green beans and carrot in the veggies. The air popped popcorn also has about 110 cals and 28 grams of carbs. I will try to do quarter or half servings of that.
My big question is will my older age make it slower to lose the weight? Also will i get the same benefit from the liquid vitamin since my stomach will be more empty and stomach acids will contact it. Also i used to have the equivilent of 5 or more cups of coffee and will be limiting that to one or two caffeinated i think. Also i have dropped the fish oil pill and switched to some olive oil. If i find a liquid fish oil i may take that. Oh. I also have started putting a dropper of cordyceps mushroom extract in tue tuna. Supposedly mushrooms have potent anti tumor growth effects. Maybe this will have some of that although the bottle says "energy support" which i dont really want.
I try to maintain protein intake to prevent muscle wasting especially in the heart muscle of course. I may occassionally eat two cans of tuna or add a scoop of pire protein powder 9 grams 33 cals 9 grams protein.
And you can see with the use of lite salt I will maintain both sodium and potassium levels which I beleive are extremely important. I do not skimp on that salt!. I am not trying to lose water weight. I want the fat to be used up by not having enough calories but i want the heart and muslces to maintain electrolytes. That is my theory anyway and it has worked in the past for both extended 1 to 2 months of this as well as occasional short term periods. I will also drink a quart of my lemonade over the course of the day and maybe more and a few cups of coffee. You need water to metabolize fat and to clesr your kidneys flowing. My pee is nearly clear not dark yellow so I know I am staying hydrated.
Started 2/14 didnt weigh that day but was finding it tough to get into all my 34 waist jeans and could no longer button my medium size shirts and wanted to stop that problem before it got worse. Also general belly flab and seeing neck and cheek fat starting. I am older so if i wait to long to lose it my skin wont retighten. Also dont want to go into my late 50's with a lot of weight on hips and joints that may give out sooner if loaded.
I probably wont post my weight every day but rather every few days. Hopefully i wont forget my passwword for this throwawayaccount.
I do write down all my important passwords before doing this diet because i have noticed memory gets bad as blood sugar to the brain i guess is less than normal. ( i once forgot my atm password for a week doing this diet)
By the way the cost of this diet is 2 or 3 $ per day total food and vitamin cost. Poverty is no excuse for weight gain. In fact this diet puts money in your bank.
Additionally you are eating pure unprocessed sources of protein and veggies and getting fiber. ( i dont like fiber one as much as i used to becuase it is processed but it is still the best i have found other than pouring raw whest bran into the bowl which i also have done)
2/14 unknown weight but started the diet this day in the morning.
2/15 204.5 with clothes my clothes are jeans, socks, tshirt, long sleeve overshirt, underwear, and a pair of topsider type shoes. That rarely varies so shouldnt impact weight shown. I may wiegh those clothes later to know the weight. Feeling a lot of energy that i ironically always feel when first starting this diet. Did a lot of home lifting of boxes and cleaned up three rooms.
2/16 202.8 c (c means clothes) Felt a little stomach hunger for the first time. Ate airpopped popcorn with garlic and onion powder.
2/17 202.1 c a little lite stomach hunger in the morning. Ready for the tuna at 12 noon! Also feeling the fat being used up in my facial cheeks (this is always where i feel this diet first. You sort of feel the fat getting attacked. Its hard to expalin but a definite physical sensation everytime I do this diet.) Also feeling the mind clear that comes with a minor fast. Also my thighs had just started to rub before starting this diet (another reason i started) and now notice they really arent. Also have that slight constant hunger which makes you wnat to eat and when you dont you tend to direct it to doing something else. May take a walk or do more deep house cleaning.
2/18 200.7 no need for popcorn snack last night not hungry. Tons of energy but cant go outside because of the snow. Took a picture in my old wetsuit . Also in a medium size shirt I want to be able to wear again. Yuk. Looking forward to a month from now. Added one tablespoon of pire protein powder to water and drink with my tuna can for lunch to get my protein grmas above 30 grams for the meal. Powder added about 40 calories to my day. Boiled/steamed a bunch of frozen chicken tenders for lunch for the next few days. Tired of tuna. Drwnk a quarter cup of milk with two or three drops of pure vanilla extract mixed with arbonated water from my soda stream and a packet of sweetnlow. Tasted like a cream soda! Yum! Maybe 30 calories. Also ate one slice of honey ham at i0 calories last night 3 carbs so add 80 calories plus 30 to my count.
2/19 199.7 last night ate air popped before my veggies. Switched veggies to a steamables pack of cauliflower, broc, waterchesnuts andsnowpeas, seasoned them with soy sauce, ginger powder and cayeen red pepper powder Yum. May add some drops of cocnut flavorrops to see of it tastes like thai today. Coffee for breakfat made me not do fiber. At noon i had one softboiled egg with spray butter (you forget how flavorful eggs are until you stop eating sugar and carbs and your taste buds reawaken.) Also one half a chicken tenderloin cold with salt. Should equally approximately one can of tuna. Also made my fiber cereal i skipped for breakfast.
2/20 199.1 lbs Wont do hwt i did yesterday again about skipping the mornig fiber. Even aftercombining it with protein at lunch for a larger lunch and same intake i was actually suddenly rather hungry about an hour later. I had to wait it out until it went away. Spacing and timing of these meals is extremely important to prevent hunger! A lesson i remember from doing this before and now have relearned. Dont vary the timing or intake of food to prevent hunger!
